About this work
Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Valenciennes lace. Along the underside of the strip runs a wavy band, forming the shallow regular shells. Above the band the strip consists of a mesh ground, a diamond-shaped Valenciennes ground. The solid work (the band) is made in linen stitch with openwork edges and a cutout in the middle where overlapping pairs provide decorative filling. The upper side of the strip is finished straight. The shells along the underside are finished with picots.
