About this work

Strip of natural-colored mixed lace: Venetian bobbin lace. Pattern with a scrolling vine across the full width of the strip, on a square mesh ground (needlepoint lace) with twisted buttonhole stitches. On the vine leaves and various flowers, including rosette flowers, palmette flowers and cup flowers in a repeating pattern. The contours of the pattern are formed by a woven ribbon. Within the contours various ornamental grounds are applied with buttonhole stitches. The finish at the top is a straight edge to which groups of a few very small thickenings, made with a few stitches, are attached. The bottom is finished with a straight edge bobbin lace with arches.
