Strip of bobbin lace with a central band of linked diamonds

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace. The repeating and geometric pattern consists of a series of diamond-shaped motifs, which form a wide band over the center line of the strip. The diamonds have alternately an openwork edge or an openwork center. The motifs are connected to each other by a mesh ground, a buttonhole lattice ground. A series of pointed oval cutouts in the mesh ground forms a decorative edge along the underside of the strip. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges. Both the solid work and the cutouts are largely provided with thick contour threads. In the diamonds with an openwork center a decorative ground is applied. The top and bottom sides of the strip are finished straight, with the underside provided with picots.
