About this work
Engageante of natural-colored needle lace: Alençon lace. The pattern features scattered flowers on a ground of twisted (square) meshes and a vine border with various fillings, decorative grounds, and decorative stitches, including grounds in diamond stitch and gridwork with radar picots. Notable are the openwork flowers, which occur sporadically in this manner in Alençon lace. The motifs are built up from festoon stitches and feature festooned relief contours. The upper edge is finished straight with a bobbin band. The very flat scalloped edge is finished with picots. The ends are joined almost invisibly.
