Strip of bobbin lace with whimsically framed cartouche and three-lobed motif

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of a series of a trapezium-shaped cartouche with a whimsical frame and a whimsical elongated three-lobed motif. The motifs lie against the lower edge and the cartouches fill almost the entire strip to the upper side. They are connected by a fine mesh ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with thicker and shiny contour threads. An ornamental ground with coarser meshes is applied in the cartouches. Top and bottom sides are finished straight with picots along the lower side.
