Two women standing outdoors side by side, drawn from the front. Both are dressed in a foot-long pleated wrap skirt (redda), the ends of the pleats fastened at the waist in a manner characteristic of this region. Above this they wear a short, wide Portuguese blouse with a V-neck and long sleeves (hatte). The woman on the left wears a Portuguese straw hat with a very wide brim. Her hair is not visible but appears to be pinned back. The woman on the right has her hair parted in the middle, combed back and pinned up in a bun (condé). The women are Sinhalese or Eurasian.
