About this work
Three Sinhalese women of low caste, outdoors by the road. All three wear a wrap skirt (redda), pleated in the Sinhalese manner and fastened at the waist. Above this they wear a wide Portuguese blouse with a V-neck and long sleeves (hatte). All three wear a long headscarf hanging down the back. On top of their heads each wears a thick carrying ring wrapped in cloth. The woman on the left has placed her right hand on it. Leaf 37 from a sketchbook with 117 leaves.
