Two resting labourers

Outside on the ground, two men sit, drawn from behind. The man on the left sits with his muscular back towards us and wears a short folded hip-cloth (veshti, lungi). His chest, legs, and arms are bare. He looks at the man next to him. His head hair is hidden under a cloth. On the right, a man sits with knees drawn up, half-lying on his right hip. A hip-cloth reaches to the knee. Under his right arm lies a piece of cloth on the ground – the end of his hip-cloth or his loose shawl (chadar). Both men are likely laborers from South India, employed for reconstruction. Leaf 64 from a sketchbook with 117 leaves.
