About this work
Two pages with seven affixed and labeled samples (258-265) of individual vignettes and emblems in gold and silver-colored metal foil (samples nos. 253, 251, and 250 missing). Depictions include, among others, boar hunting, Venus and Cupid, and chariots. On the opposite left page, a table with handwritten corresponding specifications (in code) for each ornament. Part of the sample book donated by the Van Rijn ladies, presumably from a French manufacturer of luxury papers or its representative in the Netherlands, ca. 1830.
