About this work

Two pages with seven affixed and labeled samples (272-372) of individual vignettes and emblems in gold and multicolored metal foil (samples nos. 253, 251, and 250 missing). Depictions include, among others, flower still lifes, a man in a boat, and the names of the seven days of the week. On the opposite right page, a table with handwritten corresponding specifications (in code) for each ornament. Part of the sample book donated by the Van Rijn ladies, presumably from a French manufacturer of luxury papers or its representative in the Netherlands, ca. 1830.
