About this work

View of the Amsterdam Schouwburg on the Leidseplein, inaugurated on 15 September 1774. The Leidsepoort is visible in the left background. This city theater was built to replace the theater on the Keizersgracht that burned down in 1772 and itself burned down in 1890.
