About this work
The siege of Damiate in 1219. Oval representation of the ships before the harbours in a frame decorated with weaponry, water creatures and various coats of arms. Top the city maiden of Haarlem with the coat of arms of Haarlem. Angels hold a laurel wreath above her head. In the top corners more coats of arms. Below the image a verse in three columns of four lines each: 'Thus lay Damiaet with towers shot off!' [...].
