About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, placing a matchlock musket (a specific type of firearm) on his left shoulder with his right hand, barrel pointing upwards. In his outstretched left hand, he holds a burning match — the smoke is not yet depicted in this first state. This print is part of the series of 42 numbered prints of matchlock musketeers from the Wapenhandelinghe.
