About this work
A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, taking a matchlock musket (a specific type of firearm) from his left shoulder with his right hand. In his left hand, besides the butt of the musket, he holds a burning match. This is the same position as the one shown in the second print of the series. This print is part of the series of 42 numbered prints of matchlock musketeers from the Wapenhandelinghe.
