About this work

A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand at the fork of the furket (musket fork) on which the barrel rests. With his thumb and middle finger of his right hand he positions the lit match on the hammer (part of the firing mechanism) of his musket correctly. This print is part of the series of 43 numbered prints of musketeers from the Wapenhandelinghe.
