About this work
Muslim galley slaves are carrying a ship's sail onto the quay. These enslaved men are identifiable as Muslims by their characteristic hairstyle (shaved head except for a tuft of hair), which they were required to wear. Two sailors are supervising. One of them is holding his stick threateningly. In the background to the right, two galleys are sailing.
