About this work

Allegory on the political situation in the year 1672. Image with the Dutch Maiden lying sick in bed. Now that the unity of the seven provinces has been broken, the Dutch lion turns to the portrait of William III. Around the bed various regents and allegorical figures, including Religion and Freedom. Below the image a Dutch verse in 3 columns that largely corresponds to the verse under the original plate by De Passe from 1665.
