Handkerchief of batiste with a border of bobbin lace with cartouches and diagonal running vines with oval leaves on both sides

Handkerchief of batiste finished all around with a strip of Brussels bobbin lace. Square model with rounded corners along which the lace strip is gathered. The pattern consists along the underside of more or less pointed oval cartouches and scrolls with oval leaves on either side. From one cartouche two scrolls spring, in a diagonal line to the left and to the right, where they bend at the top of the strip and end in a flower. The following cartouche is formed by a scroll that bends in a large arch over a flower lying along the underside of the strip. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges, very few and fine cutouts and partly provided with corded outlines and cutwork relief contours. The motifs are connected to each other by a trellis ground: drochel ground. As decorative grounds various grounds have been applied, including netting decorated with shaped stitches. The scallop edge along the underside of the strip comes from the pattern and is finished with picots.
