Strip of bobbin lace with two shield-shaped main motifs

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Binche lace. The repeating and sparse pattern consists of two different, symmetrical compositions. In both compositions the main motif is a more or less shield-shaped element, composed of S-scrolls, C-scrolls and snowflakes. A characteristic motif along the top are mirrored S-scrolls of feathered leaves, with in the middle a snowflake from which on both sides three curved leaves sprout. The motifs are connected by a trellis ground, a five-hole ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and in net stitch. Some decorative grounds have been used, including a snowflake ground. The top and bottom of the strip are finished straight, with the bottom provided with picots.
