Handkerchief of natural-coloured batiste with embroidery - white work with plumetis and shadow work - and finished all around with a strip of bobbin lace: Valenciennes lace. The embroidery fills every corner to the middle of each side, leaving a diamond-shaped piece of unworked batiste in the centre. The embroidery pattern is the same for each corner and consists of a cartouche with a pearl border in the shape of a coat of arms, containing various flower species and fine curling lines. The shield is flanked on both sides by an oval cartouche with a pearl border, in which a circle with a seven-petalled flower stands centrally and around it fine curling lines and curling feathered leaves. The strip of bobbin lace has a repeating pattern of a hanging flower above a lying arch. The lying arches form a scallop border finished with picots. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and are connected to each other by a lattice ground: a square Valenciennes ground.
