Strip of appliqué lace with wavy vine and bellflower branches

Strip of Brussels appliqué lace, bobbin lace with needle lace decorative stitches, attached appliqué on machine-made tulle. The strip was made as the lower strip of three strips for a crinoline skirt. The strip features a continuous pattern with a wavy, openwork leaf vine to the left. From each wave crest spring three rosette flowers and a large branch bending to the right with bell flowers. Under each wave hang two richly decorated garlands, forming the deep scallops. The motifs are made in linen stitch and largely feature relief contours made with a thicker thread, and here and there with cutwork relief contours (ribs). One type of decorative ground (needle lace), with mesh decorated with thickened knots, fills part of the motifs. The upper edge is finished with a hem.
