Strip of appliqué lace with U-shaped cartouches with bows and flower garlands above and bellflowers below

Japanese strip of natural-colored Brussels appliqué lace: bobbin lace with needle lace ornaments - Brussels duchesse - applied on machine-made tulle. The repeating pattern consists of U-shaped cartouches with in each a flower branch. Above each cartouche a floral garland with a bow. Below each cartouche hang four bellflowers between two large leaves each crowned by a rosette flower. The machine-made tulle ground is sown with ring-shaped knots. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges. The motifs are largely provided with contour threads and at various places bobbinnet relief contours are applied. In the largest flowers needle lace ornaments are applied, with or without applied on inserted pieces of finer tulle. The top side of the strip is cut off and not finished. The shell edge comes from the pattern with the U-shaped cartouches, where the bellflowers between the leaves form the lobes of the shells. The lobes are finished with picots.
