About this work
Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace, Valenciennes lace. Running along the lower edge of the strip is a band of linked pointed ovals, which form regular scallops. Above the band the strip consists of a mesh ground, a round Valenciennes ground. The pointed ovals are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and a cutout in the centre, which is decorated with small snowflakes. The upper edge of the strip is finished straight and sewn on to a strip of machine-made tulle. The scallops along the lower edge are finished with picots.
