About this work

Strip of natural-coloured Dutch bobbin lace. The repeating pattern consists of a stylized peony between two downward hanging leaves with turned smaller flowers. Between the successive peonies there is always a loose dot along the top edge. The motifs are connected by a round lattice ground with plaited layers. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork borders that provide contours around petals and leaf veins. The top and bottom edges of the strip are finished straight, with the bottom edge provided with picots.
