About this work

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Binche lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists of a large leaf, which goes diagonally from the top of the strip downwards where it lies with a slight curve along the bottom. From the center of this diagonal leaf two feathered leaves emerge, which bend downwards. The lower one curls around and has a cluster of oval flowers or berries at the end. At the end of the other leaf is a large drop-shaped leaf or a drop-shaped flower. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, a five-hole ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and net stitch fillings. The top and bottom of the strip are finished straight, with the bottom provided with picots. The strip runs slightly round and is finished on one side with a hem. Possibly intended or used as a cuff.
