About this work

Handkerchief with a border of natural-coloured needle lace, Brussels gauze lace. Around a small, cross-shaped batiste centre runs a lace border with eight deep scallops. These are separated by eight standing ovals framed in C-scrolls, containing among other things closed-worked stars. The scallops are formed by 'rail tracks', outside of which hang calyxes and double, folded acanthus leaves. Under the ovals hangs a calyx flower between two roses. In the corner scallops stands each time a rose with triple relief leaves. Small C-scrolls form the inner border.
