About this work
Handkerchief with a border of natural-coloured needle lace, Brussels gauze lace. Around a cross-shaped batiste centre runs a broad border of lace with hollow shells, which are intersected by four large corner ovals, alternated by four smaller ones. The shells are composed of 'rails', a wheel border and a leaf sprig. The points are crowned by a leaf palmette. The ovals filled with stars and wheels are closed by a shell border, which consists of daisies, under which leaves hang. Hollow and convex C-scrolls form the inner border.
