About this work
Strip of natural-colored needle lace: men's Alençon, possibly partly machine-made (see note on technique). Sprig motif with sprigs on a fine hexagonal mesh ground. The pattern at the bottom of the strip consists of diagonal twigs with a lobed leaf on each side. These leaf pairs are alternately filled with a filler ground. The lower edge consists of a row of umbelliferous flowers with seven separate small flowers, filled with a filler ground. There is no separate pattern for the lower edge; the scalloped edge forms from the lower flower motif. The upper edge is finished with a border of bobbin lace.
