Cap border of bobbin lace with carnation and rocaille

Cap slip of natural bobbin lace, Mechelen lace. One rounded end and the other end is straight cut and unfinished. The repeating pattern consists of a carnation placed lengthwise in the cap slip, alternated by a rocaille motif from which a split branch with leaves springs. Part of the leaves touches one of the long sides. The pattern along the long sides consists of linked leaves and, at regular intervals, a rocaille motif. The motifs are made in linen stitch with sparingly applied cutouts and provided with thicker contour threads. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, a Mechelen ground. In the rocailles and between some leaves ornamental grounds are applied. Except at the cut end, the edges of the cap slip are finished with picots.
