Strip of gold lace with hearts and squares

Strip of bobbin lace, gold lace. The repeating pattern consists of a heart crowned by a pointed oval. Between the successive hearts is a triangular configuration of ten squares. Fan-shaped shells between the hearts form the lower edge of the strip. The squares worked in form stitch are set in a mesh ground, an eyelet ground. The vertical lines in the hearts are made with flattened filé thread, the core wrapped with looser and wider bands than the finer filé thread used for the rest of the lace. The shells have a triple thread as the running pair, making long loops.
